From ES1 to Stage 3, Coding and Robotics can be used to engage students in Mathematics through a problem-solving approach. Participants will explore a variety of stage appropriate robotic activities with option for Bee Bot, Scratch, Ollie Robot and Sphero Robotic Ball [multiple Sphero robots at Corrimal PS only].

Robotics is a fun and highly engaging method of creating collaborative and challenging activities in science, maths, literacy and other key learning areas.

This afternoon session is designed for teachers of K-6 Mathematics as an introduction to using coding and robotics in the mathematics classroom. In this K-6 hands-on workshop teachers will:

  • Identify how coding and robotics can enable their students to meet outcomes in the NSW K-6 Mathematics Syllabus.
  • Create coding and robotics activities which enable their students to demonstrate meeting the outcomes through a problem-solving approach.
  • Use simple coding to solve problems.

Participants in this course will work with Kerrie Faulkner who has over 35 years experience in primary and secondary schools. She currently supports teachers in a Community of Schools in Wollongong and teaches at the University of Wollongong in mathematics education. Kerrie will facilitate discussion, link research to practical classroom activities and engage participants in activities that can be used in the classroom.
