Karen is a popular, engaging and experienced presenter who will explore the key elements of this exciting Area of Study, Discovery. This is an ideal time to provide students with the core elements of this Discovery concept and how to unpack the different layers. This conceptual framework is a valuable foundation which will shape and affect our teaching and learning for the current Area of Study.

11.15-12.30pm Imaginative Writing for Discovery –   Karen Yager

Karen brings to this session an extensive career in teaching and in exploring the imaginative mode of writing. Writing imaginatively is not only a powerful vehicle for student self-expression and an authentic way to explore Discovery but it is a fundamental element of the world of English. It is also a much under-valued Section of Paper 1. Karen will explore this exciting and inspiring mode of writing within the framework of the Discovery concept and showcase some techniques and strategies for students’ own imaginative writing.

Hints and Tips for Paper 1 and ideas for related texts- Jane Sherlock and Mel Dixon

 Exploring related texts is also a wonderful way to expand students’ reading and viewing experiences. This session will explore texts which could be valuable related texts and well as models for responding to Section I. Jane and Mel will explore how to analyse and integrate related texts into a sustained response.
