This professional learning activity comprises seven sessions and is designed for teachers with little or no past experience of teaching Stage 6 Mathematics Extension 1.

Experienced teachers who are seeking new ways to inspire Mathematics Extension 1 students will also find the course valuable.

The course will focus on the following Mathematics Extension 1 syllabus topics: Induction and Inequalities; Parametrics and Polynomials; Counting Techniques and Integration; Inverse Functions; Circle Geometry; Projectile Motion and Simple Harmonic Motion; Binomial Theorem.

The course will include:

  • a comprehensive coverage of the course content
  • teaching and learning strategies appropriate for the development of deep understanding
  • a focus on pre-requisite knowledge and areas where students typically experience difficulties
  • practical examples of how ICT can be used to enhance student learning

Teachers will have the opportunity to engage with problems typical of those that students will need to solve as part of the HSC examinations in Mathematics Extension 1.

Teachers who participate in the course will be included in a wiki through which they will be able to access digital copies of course materials and share ideas and share resources.

Some use of computer technology will be included, so please bring your lap-top and charger.

Video-conferencing is available through the DoE connected classroom network. Teachers in non-government schools who would like to attend by video-conference are encouraged to approach colleagues in their local DoE school to arrange access to the network.”
